Reading Challenges

If you like the idea of prompts/challenges to keep you motivated to read all year long, here is a list of various 2018 reading challenges!

Diversity Bingo
  • Diversity Bingo is technically a challenge from last year but I highly recommend attempting to do this challenge every year. Each square on the bingo card has a theme, such as romance with a trans MC (main character) or MC of color or in SFF (science fiction/fantasy). The goal is to read 36 diverse books by the end of the year and help diversify their reading.
  • This challenge became pretty popular last year so if you google diversity bingo 2017 you can find a lot of people's TBRs (to be read lists) and find recommendations. You can also find TBRs and rec commendations on YouTube as well.
  • The announcement blog post from one the of the creators can be found here.

Book Riot's 2018 Read Harder Challenge
  • For the past four years the website Book Riot has put on a Read Harder challenge that "give(s) you 24 tasks that will invite new genres, new authors, and new worlds, both real and imaginary, into your reading life."
  • Some examples of the challenges on this list are a book with a female protagonist over the age of 60 and a romance novel by or about a person of color.
  • You can find their 2018 challenge post here.

PopSugar's 2018 Reading Challenge
  • The website PopSugar also hosts a yearly reading challenge. Their challenge this year has 40 prompts to "broaden your reading scope." Some of the challenges on their list are Nordic noir and a book about mental health. They also have an 'Advanced' list with 10 more challenges if you manage to finish the main list.
  • You can find their 2018 reading challenge post here.

These are just a few of the challenges that I personally tend to look at but Girlxoxo has created a masterlist of every 2018 reading challenge so make sure to go over there and take a look to see if there's a reading challenge that's a better fit for you!

Of course, if you prefer not to follow a challenge or list and prefer to simply go with the flow, that's great too! All that matters is that we're all reading!

So, do you think you'll try and participate in any of these reading challenges? Or do you have any recommendations for any of the challenges? Let us know in the comments!
